RANT ON
Listen to me people hear what I say
I know what’s wrong with the world today
Too little of this, too much of that
All the wrong people getting way too fat
And too much information is dragging us down
The world’s gone crazy, take a look around
Everybody thinks they know where it’s at
And they shout it out loud at the drop of a hat.
They rant on
They rant on
In my face each and every day
They all rant on but they got nothing to say
Rant on
Rant on
It’s getting too much and I’m blowing a fuse
All these damn opinions just give me the blues.
The woman I love is driving me to drink
We argue day and night, we’re always on the brink
She nags about this, moans about that
If I say the world is round she tells me it’s flat
Now all this confrontation is bringing me down
Making me crazy, I’m gonna leave town
I looked her in the eye, said girl I’m getting out
She replied well that’s what you think and began to scream and shout
And rant on
She rants on
In my face each and every day
Always contradicting everything that I say
She rants on
She rants on
It’s getting too much and I’m blowing a fuse
Everything that woman says just gives me the blues.
Now I’m nobody’s fool, I know my own mind
And I’ll tell you what I’m thinking if I feel so inclined
But I weigh the pros and cons, I think it through
Choose my words so you won’t misconstrue
But the world no longer listens to the voice of common sense
It’s like we’re in a competition who can give the most offence
I’m driven to despair by the state the world is in
I think it’s time to raise my voice so that I too can begin to
Rant on
I’ll rant on
I’ll be in your face each and every day
Listen to me, I got something to say!
Rant on
Rant on
But if you really want to know why I’m blowing a fuse
It’s ‘cause there’s too much talk, too little rhythm and blues
Rant on
We rant on
And if you really want to know why I’m blowing a fuse
It’s ‘cause there’s too much talk, too little rhythm and blues
Too much talk, too little rhythm and blues
Too much talk, too little rhythm and blues
Rant on!

BOOK OF FOOLS
Here’s a picture of me, I was just 19
Laughing, stupid, drunk, I knew everything
On my arm is a golden girl
One of many I don’t recall
I was having a ball when I was 19
Didn’t give a damn, the slate was clean
There I stand looking so cool
On the very first page of my Book of Fools.
Here’s a picture of me, I was 31
In my prime, sun always shone
Next to me is my beautiful wife
But the very next year she was gone from my life
31 years but what did I know
I had it all then I watched it go
Life was sad, life was cruel
As I turned the page in my Book of Fools.
Here’s a picture of me, I was 43
Fooling with some lover, we look so carefree
But the eyes behind my smiling face
Reveal what time cannot erase
43 years, I still had a plan
Well you play the game as best you can
Earn your scars, learn the rules
We all got entries in the Book of Fools.
Here’s a picture of me, I was 55
Taking no prisoners, staying alive
Oh yes, I was still looking for pearls
But my side is a good time girl
It’s a mean old world, you do what you must
When all that’s left is ashes and dust
Learning the things they never teach in schools
Burned in the pages of the Book of Fools.
Here’s a picture of me taken in my chair
I sit there all day, just sit and stare
The clock runs fast when you run slow
Til in the end you’ve no damn place to go
All these memories, one by one
Locked away till the day is done
Oh you can wear your shackles like precious jewels
You’re still bound in chains to a Book of Fools.
